Instructions
Loosen the cover on the front fork

The disassembly of the front wheel starts at the cover on the front fork. You will find the relevant screws at the connection of both sides.
Remove screws behind the reflectors

There are additional screws behind the two reflectors. Remove these as well so that you can completely detach the cover.
Detach the drum brake

Next, detach the drum brake. To do this, loosen the adjustment screw of the drum brake.
Work carefully to avoid damaging any components of the brake mechanism.
Remove the front wheel
By now, if you loosen both nuts, you can remove the front wheel and take it in your hands.
Set aside all the loosened parts in an organized manner so that nothing is lost during reassembly.
Clean or replace the drum brake
Once you have disassembled the front wheel, you can either replace the drum brake with a new one or clean the brake.
Open the drum brake and wipe it carefully. Do not use any greasy or soapy cleaners. A brake cleaner along with paper towels works best.
Prepare tire and completely deflate
To change the tire or tube, take the tire and place it on a stable surface or carefully clamp it in. Be careful not to damage the axle.
Generously coat the tire with mounting paste and fully deflate the tire.
Detach tire from the rim and remove tube
Carefully insert the tire lever into the tire and pry the tire off the rim piece by piece. Then, loosen the valve and remove the tube.
Clean the inside of the rim as needed before installing the new parts.
Install new tube or tire
Insert a new tube, ensuring that it is not twisted. Coat the rim and new tire again with mounting paste.
Use the tire levers to put the new tire back on the rim.
Inflate tire and complete assembly
Inflate the tire with the compressor to about 3.5 bar. Then, if necessary, release some air until the desired pressure is reached.
After that, remove all remnants of the mounting paste.
Reassemble front wheel and drum brake
Reinstall the front wheel in reverse order. Secure both nuts, reattach the drum brake, and mount the cover on the front fork again.
Lastly, check that all screws are tight and that the brake operates correctly.
Check result
After reassembly, check that all affected parts are correctly installed and functioning properly. Pay special attention to the secure fit of the front wheel, the operation of the drum brake, and the correct air pressure of the tire.
Frequently asked questions
Here you will find answers to frequently asked questions about this repair.
Can I simply clean the drum brake instead of replacing it?
Yes, if the drum brake is not damaged or heavily worn, careful cleaning with brake cleaner can be sensible. Do not use any greasy or soapy cleaners.
What do I need to pay attention to when installing a new tube?
Make sure that the tube is not twisted when inserted and does not get pinched while mounting the tire. Otherwise, it can be damaged right away.
What should I do if the brake does not function properly after reassembly?
Check again if the drum brake is correctly attached and adjusted. If the braking effect still isn't right, the VMAX e-scooter should be checked by a service center.
