Can I E-Scooter solid rubber tires on my VMAX E-Scooter ?
Our E-Scooter standard with tubeless tires—that is, air-filled tires without a separate inner tube. This tire technology was deliberately chosen and is optimally tailored to the vehicle’s handling, suspension, and mechanical stress.
The apparent advantage of a solid rubber tire is offset by many disadvantages.
1. Comfort and Suspension
Solid tires do not have an air-filled structure and cannot adequately absorb shocks from road irregularities. Impacts are transmitted directly to the suspension—which can lead to increased wear and potential long-term damage. In addition, this can make the ride significantly less comfortable for you—especially on uneven surfaces.
2. Increased load
Our bearings and components are designed to accommodate the flexibility of tubeless tires. Solid rubber tires provide significantly less shock absorption. Variants such as honeycomb tires (or hollow-chamber tires) also provide significantly poorer shock absorption compared to tubeless tires. Over time, this reduced shock absorption can lead to structural damage to the rim, bearings, motor, or electronic components.
Rolling resistance can also differ from the factory settings when using different tires, thereby increasing the electrical load on the electronics and battery. This phenomenon also occurs if you drive with tire pressure that is too low. Therefore, be sure to check your tire pressure regularly to prevent long-term damage.
3. Changes in driving behavior
The air pressure in tubeless tires allows them to adapt to the road surface, ensuring optimal grip—even in wet or uneven conditions. Even at moderate speeds (22–25 km/h), the higher stiffness of solid rubber tires negatively affects handling and cornering stability. This can lead to a less secure riding experience, particularly on wet or uneven surfaces, and increases the risk of falls.
4. Warranty Claims
The scooter is designed to be used with air-filled tubeless tires. VMAX does not provide a warranty if the scooter is not treated with care or is damaged as a result of modifications, such as the installation of different tires. Any damage or premature wear resulting directly or indirectly from the installation of different tires is excluded from the warranty.
5. Road approval
Under Swiss road traffic regulations, solid tires are permitted only when pneumatic tires are unsuitable (Art. 60 VTS).
So the short answer is: No, you shouldn't put solid tires on your VMAX unless it came with them from the factory.
