Removing the Rear Axle Cover on the VX5

First, remove the rear axle cover.

2

Disconnect the motor's plug connection

Disconnect the motor's connector on the VX5

Next, disconnect the motor's plug.

Be sure to disconnect the connection carefully and do not pull on the cable itself.

3

Remove the engine

If you remove both nuts now, you can take the motor out from the bottom.

Hold the motor firmly while loosening it so that it doesn't sag uncontrollably.

4

Prepare the engine for a tire change

To change the tire, take the removed engine and place it on a sturdy surface or carefully secure it.

Be careful not to damage either the shaft or the cable connector.

5

Remove the tire and take out the inner tube

Generously coat the tire with the appropriate mounting compound and completely deflate the tire.

Carefully place the tire lever against the tire and pry the tire off the rim little by little. Then remove the valve from the axle and take out the tube.

6

Check the rim and install a new inner tube

Clean the inside of the rim if necessary. Then place the new tube on the rim, making sure it isn't twisted.

Next, attach the valve to the new hose.

7

Install a new tire

Apply mounting compound to the rim and the new tire again. Use the tire levers to mount the new tire back onto the rim.

8

Inflate the tires and finish the installation

Inflate the tire to about 3.5 bar using the air compressor. Then, if necessary, let some air out.

Then remove all traces of the assembly paste.

9

Reinstall the engine

Reinstall the motor in reverse order. Position it correctly, tighten both nuts, and reconnect the plug securely.

Next, reinstall the rear axle cover.

When assembling the unit, make sure that all screws are tightened properly and that no cables are pinched or damaged.

Check the result

After assembly, check to make sure that all relevant parts are installed correctly and are functioning properly. Pay particular attention to ensuring that the motor is securely fastened, that the cables are routed correctly, and that the tire is properly inflated and securely mounted.

Frequently Asked Questions

Here you'll find answers to frequently asked questions about this repair.

Do I have to completely remove the engine to change the tire?

Yes. First, remove the entire wheel with the motor so you can then change the tire or tube. This gives you much better access and allows you to work more neatly.

What should I keep in mind when connecting the motor?

The connector should be disconnected carefully and reconnected correctly later. Do not pull directly on the cable to avoid causing damage.

What should you do if the tire doesn't fit properly after changing it?

Check to see if the tire is seated evenly on the rim and if enough mounting compound was used. If you're unsure or if the tire can't be mounted properly, don't try to force the repair.
