- Allen 3 mm
- Phillips screwdriver
- Heat-shrink tubing (or electrical tape)
- Hot-air dryer or lighter
- Scissors or knife
- Optional: Spray adhesive or hot glue
Instructions
Loosen the fender bolt

First, loosen the fasteners on the fender. To do this, remove the four screws on the fender.
You can loosen the strut by also removing the rear axle cover.
Remove the rubber mat and the footboard cover

Now remove the rubber mat from your footboard. Then remove the footboard cover.
Expose the taillight wire in the running board

Inside the footboard, remove the cable cover and locate the cable for the taillight.
Loosen the heat-shrink tubing here and disconnect the taillight.
Loosen the wiring on the inside of the fender
Disconnect the taillight wiring on the inside of the fender.
Be careful while doing this so that the cable isn't damaged or bent too sharply.
Replace the taillight or fender
Once the bolts and wiring have been disconnected, you can remove the defective taillight or fender and install the new part.
Feed the cable neatly back through the designated guide and make sure it is routed correctly.
Reconnect the taillight and secure the cable
Reconnect the taillight and then re-insulate the connection with heat-shrink tubing or, alternatively, electrical tape.
Use a heat gun or, with caution, a lighter to securely attach the heat-shrink tubing.
Reinstall the footrest and fender
Reinstall the cable guard, and put the footboard cover and rubber mat back in place.
Next, securely reattach the fender and the brace to their proper positions.
Check the result
After assembly, check to make sure that all relevant parts are installed correctly and are working properly. Pay special attention to ensuring that the fender is securely fastened and that the taillight is working.
Frequently Asked Questions
Here you'll find answers to frequently asked questions about this repair.
Do I really have to remove the rubber mat to get to the taillight wire?
According to these instructions, yes, because only then can you remove the footboard cover and access the taillight wiring.
Can I use electrical tape instead of heat-shrink tubing?
Yes, the old procedure explicitly mentions electrical tape as an alternative. Heat-shrink tubing is usually the neater solution, but electrical tape can also be used.
What should I do if the taillight doesn't work after I've put it back together?
First, check the plug connection and the insulation on the cable connection again. If the taillight still doesn't work, you should inspect the wiring more closely.
