Instructions
Loosen the front brake cable
First, loosen the cable on the front wheel. To do this, first unscrew the nut and then unhook the cable.
Remove the locking screw
You can then loosen the locking screw.
Remove the front wheel
If you loosen both hub nuts now, you'll have your front wheel loose in your hand.
Clean or Replace the Drum Brake
Once you've removed the front wheel, you can replace the drum brake with a new one or clean it.
To do this, open them and wipe them down carefully. Never use greasy or soapy cleaners. A brake cleaner works best.
Prepare the tire and let the air out
To change the tire, remove the wheel and place it on a stable surface or mount it on a wheel stand. Be careful not to damage the axle.
Generously coat the tire with the appropriate mounting compound and completely deflate the tire.
Remove the tire from the rim
Carefully place the tire lever against the tire and pry the tire off the rim little by little.
If necessary, clean the inside of the rim before installing the new tire.
Install a new tire
Apply mounting compound to the rim and the new tire again.
Use the tire levers to mount the new tire back onto the rim.
Inflating and Cleaning Tires
Inflate the tire to about 3 bar using the air compressor. Then, if necessary, let some air out until the correct pressure is reached.
Then remove all traces of the assembly paste.
Check the result
After assembly, check that the front wheel is properly seated and spins freely. Also check that the drum brake is working properly, that the tire is properly seated on the rim, and that it is inflated to the correct pressure.
Frequently Asked Questions
Here you'll find answers to frequently asked questions about this repair.
Can I clean the drum brake instead of replacing it right away?
Yes, according to the instructions, you can open the drum brake after removing the front wheel and clean it thoroughly. Be sure to use only a suitable brake cleaner and avoid any lubricating or soapy cleaners.
What should I pay special attention to when changing tires?
Be careful not to damage the axle, make sure to completely deflate the tire, and use enough mounting compound. This will make it much easier to remove the tire from the rim and reinstall it.
What pressure should I use to inflate the tire again?
The old manual recommends inflating the tire to about 3 bar first and then letting some air out if necessary. The key is to make sure the tire fits properly and that the final pressure is appropriate for your model and intended use.
