Instructions
Release the brakes
First, loosen the nut on the drum brake cable using a 14 mm wrench.
Next, loosen the rear brake using a 5 mm Allen wrench.
Remove the brake cables from the brake levers
Carefully remove the brake cables from the brake levers so that the headset can be easily removed later.

Loosen the steering head
Loosen the four steering head bolts with a 3 mm Allen wrench. There are two bolts in the front and two in the back.

Next, carefully pull out the entire steering head and disconnect the display cable from the wiring harness.
Remove the headlight

Use a 2.5 mm Allen wrench to loosen the screw on the front light. The screw is located on the left side of the light cover when facing the direction of travel.

Then carefully remove the heat-shrink tubing with a utility knife and unplug the light cable.
Remove the light cover

Loosen the two screws in the light cover with a 3 mm Allen wrench and carefully remove the light cover.
Disconnect the connectors

Carefully remove all heat-shrink tubing, and then disconnect all connectors.
A total of six connectors will be disconnected during this step. Work carefully to avoid damaging any pins.
Separate the handlebars from the head

Use a 5 mm Allen wrench to loosen the four screws that connect the handlebars to the head tube.

Be especially careful not to damage any cables. Then carefully disconnect the handlebar from the head.
Remove the old display

Loosen the four Phillips-head screws on the display and remove them completely.

Then carefully pull the display out of the mount.
Install the new display
Carefully insert the new display into the mount. The cable that runs through the front bar to the wiring harness is black with a green connector.

Run the other cables out where the light will be mounted later. Then tighten the four cross-head screws hand-tight again.
Reinstall the handlebars
Put the handlebars back on the stem, making sure no cables are in the way.

Align everything properly so that the four 5-mm Allen screws can be reinserted correctly, and tighten them by hand.
Reconnect the connectors
Now reconnect all the connectors. Work carefully so that no pins are damaged.
If available, reseal the connections with heat-shrink tubing.
Tuck the cable into the head
Carefully push all the cables back into the head. Leave the light cable outside for now.

Make sure that no cables are kinked or pinched.
Install the light cover
Position the light cover correctly and feed the light cable neatly into place.

Next, tighten both 3 mm Allen screws and secure the light cover.
Reinstall the headlight
Plug the light back in. If you have one, slide a heat-shrink tube over the connection again.

Carefully insert the light cone into the light cover without damaging the cables, and secure the light with the 2.5 mm Allen screw.
Reinstall the steering head
Reinsert the wiring harness and carefully place the steering head onto the handlebars.

Make sure that no cables are damaged or pinched. Then tighten the four steering head bolts using the 3 mm Allen wrench.
Thread the brake cable and adjust the brakes
Thread the brake cables back into the brake levers in a crisscross pattern.

Finally, adjust both brakes properly and check their operation carefully.

Check the result
After reassembly, check to make sure the new display is properly seated and that all connectors are securely connected. Also check to make sure the headlight is working and that both brakes are properly adjusted.
Frequently Asked Questions
Here you'll find answers to frequently asked questions about this repair.
What should I do if a plug connection is difficult to disconnect?
Never forcefully pull apart connectors. First, check to see if heat-shrink tubing or a safety lock is still blocking the connection. Work slowly and carefully to avoid damaging any pins.
The new display isn't working after installation. What should I check?
First, check all the connections again. The connection between the display and the wiring harness is particularly important. Also check to see if any cables got pinched during assembly.
Do I need to check the brakes again after replacing the display?
Yes, definitely. Since the brake cables are disconnected for this repair, you should make sure to adjust both brakes properly when you're done and thoroughly check that they're working before you ride.
