What does the error mean?

Error code E3 means that the display is not receiving any feedback from the electronics and therefore cannot transmit any data.

The cause is usually to be found along the data cable in the steering column with the plug connection as a vulnerable point.

How can the fault be rectified?

It is often sufficient to dismantle the steering head, disconnect the plug connection and reconnect it after 1 to 2 minutes.
